With this Classroom Training offer, Participants have access to the On-Line Training to a) preview the Classroom Training ahead of time, and b) review the Classroom Training during the rest of the year, at their plant, on slow days or rain days or when they have a specific problem.

Plant Operation Workshop Subsets
* The QA-QC portion explains how the plant affects quality and what can be done to monitor the plant instruments and help fix the problems as they occur .
* The Plant Safety portion explains the not so obvious Safety Problems that exist in the Asphalt Mix Process which makes it hard to identify, develop and enforce the safety procedures.
* Plant Operation People are very often the Maintenance Person. The plant is very complex electro-mechanically and can be very dangerous to the maintenance person trying to fix it. This curriculum teaches a person who has no electrical knowledge how to safely troubleshoot. The Electro-Mechanical Workshop with Hands On Troubleshooting comes with a Reference Manual (6 Chapter, 400 page with color pictures ). Clarence Richard has 3 years formal electrical training and is responsible for the design, manufacture and maintenance of Asphalt Plant Related Equipment.

The people participating in Subsets can attend without paying for the entire Plant Operation Workshop and attending only the portion of the Plant workshop they need..

After filling out the registration form and forwarding it to Clarence Richard Company (carrie@clarencerichard.com ; 952-939-6000 Fax) , Clarence Richard Company will bill you directly. Once the workshop is over, a Certificate of Attendance will be issued to the Mix Producer and a list to AGC. AGC shall submit these names and the Curriculums/Fees to IDOT for training fee reimbursement.

Classroom Training Attendance is required for reimbursement. The On-Line training is an optional bonus Clarence Richard is offering and is not necessary for Class Room Training reimbursement. The fees listed in the registration include Color Reference (200 to 1350 Page) Manual plus On-Line Preview and Review Training.

Work Zone Safety Workshops

Temporary Traffic Control for Construction, Maintenance, and Utility Work Zones

About the workshops

Each day-long workshop is divided into a general session for all participants and breakout sessions for specific types of work zone activity:  city, county, utility, Iowa DOT construction and contractors, and Iowa DOT maintenance.
Presenters for the general session include Jerry L. Graham, president of Graham Consulting; Jerry Roche, transportation safety and operations engineer with FHWA; and officers from the Iowa State Patrol or local police.

Workshop objectives

  •  To introduce the principles and convey the importance of using proper methods for safe and efficient temporary traffic control at work sites.
  • To examine specific applications relevant to situations routinely encountered by city, county, utility, contractor, and Iowa DOT crews.
  • To reduce motor vehicle traffic crashes at road work sites, resulting in greater safety for highway users and workers alike.

Who should attend?

The MUTCD recommends that all workers complete work zone traffic control training.  All workers (and their supervisors) whose duties place them on or near the traveled portion of the roadway should attend.  Because the information is valuable for workers at all levels, attendance can be rotated systematically, making it possible for all workers within an agency to attend every few years.  It is not necessary for participants to attend each year; every three years is recommended.  Copntractors and consultant engineering staff are welcome to participate.
For those interested in Iowa DOT specifications and requirements, the Iowa DOT Construction and Contractor breakout session may be most appropriate.  The city breakout session may be best for those interested in urban work zone applications.

Registration fee

The registration fee of $75 is intended to encourage greater participation.  The Iowa DOT Office of Traffic and Safety provides supplemental funding for these workshops.
