The 2018 Strategic Asphalt Committee Field Trip Builds Partnerships

The 2018 Strategic Asphalt Committee Field Trip, held September 11-12, continued a long-lived partnering tradition between the Asphalt Paving Association of Iowa (APAI) members and the Iowa DOT leadership. The two day bus trip through NW Iowa was an opportunity to witness the performance of asphalt roads throughout DOT Districts 2,3, and 4, as well as, build upon the strong relationship between the Iowa DOT and the APAI contractors. The Strategic Asphalt Committee (SAC) is a joint working committee between the two entities that addresses major issues and important specification changes. “This event, more than any other meeting we hold each year, is special. The opportunity to travel the roads of Iowa together and see the innovative asphalt paving initiatives in action, as well as the long-term performance of our roadways is invaluable, but the true benefit comes from the relationships that you build spending two days traveling together.” Said Bill Rosener, Executive Vice President of the APAI. This year’s event included the SAC Meeting held in Sioux City, a tour of Jebro, Inc.’s asphalt cement terminal and a stop on the InRoad’s paving project on Highway 144 south of Rippey, IA. The APAI would like to thank all of our attendees from both the APAI and the Iowa DOT, with special thanks to Jeff Schmitt, Iowa DOT HMA Construction Engineer, for planning the trip.
